This was a rescue project in the basin of the Qadisiyya Dam recently completed at Haditha. Qal'at 'Ana is an island in the stream of the Euphrates, the site of the ancient and medieval city of 'Ana, since the 17th century downgraded to a village and palm-gardens, while the town moved to the right bank.
This monograph presents a synthesis of four seasons of survey and excavation conducted within a 475 km square enclave of NW Iraq. Intensive site survey and off-site sampling was combined with a drainage dyke survey and four small excavations to provide a good overview of a 9000 year settlement sequence.
