Karl Schmidt-Rottluff was one of the most important German Expressionists and a founding member of the “Brücke” artists’ group in 1905. Inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh, his development led him to explore the coastal landscapes of the north, which he translated into simple, monumental forms.
