Commander John Bingeman, chartered engineer and royal naval diver, led the Needles historic wreck site excavations supervised by the Isle of Wight County Archaeologist, Professor David Tomalin. John is the author of The First HMS Invincible (1747-58) – Her Excavations, and has published papers on Copper Sheathing and Military Buttons.
Dr Paul Simpson is the Isle of Wight Heritage Service conservator and has written a Historic England Research Report: Practical reburial of archaeological timbers and environmental monitoring. He has worked in various capacities on the Isle of Wight since the 1980s, including Finds Officer with the Isle of Wight Maritime Heritage project.
David Tomalin is former County Archaeologist for the Isle of Wight. He was Archaeological Advisor to the licensed diving programme at the Needles wreck site and initiated the Isle of Wight Maritime Heritage Project (1986-1988). He is a visiting Professor at Southampton University into advanced seabed and intertidal Solent surveys.
