Dr Charles Tracy was a leading scholar on the history and development of medieval British church furniture. He published widely in articles and books from British and European monuments, to choir-stalls, screens, pulpits, benches, lecterns and Episcopal thrones. Before he began, woodwork studies were pretty much in abeyance. Now they attract the interest of research students as well as the general public.
